A Social Engagement and Recreation Program for Adults with Diverse Abilities
Friends and Fun Club is an in-person social engagement and recreation program designed for adults ages 18 and above with diverse abilities. The program provides a welcoming, structured, and supportive environment where participants can enjoy recreational activities, connect with others, build friendships, and practice meaningful social interaction.
Many adults with diverse abilities have limited opportunities to participate in consistent, age-appropriate social and recreational programs outside of school, work, or family settings. Friends and Fun Club was created to help meet that need by offering a safe, enjoyable, and encouraging place where individuals can make friends, explore interests, participate in fun activities, and feel a true sense of belonging.
Our Purpose
The purpose of Friends and Fun Club is to provide meaningful social engagement and recreational opportunities for adults with diverse abilities.
Through fun, carefully planned activities, participants are encouraged to practice everyday social skills such as taking turns, waiting, sharing, listening, making choices, following group routines, and celebrating others. At the same time, they can enjoy recreation through games, music, creative projects, movement, technology-based activities, and group experiences.
Friends and Fun Club is not only about filling time. It is about creating a positive social and recreational environment where each participant can feel included, respected, and capable.

Why Social Engagement and Recreation Matter
Social engagement and recreation are important parts of quality of life. For adults with diverse abilities, regular opportunities to participate in enjoyable group activities can support emotional well-being, communication, independence, confidence, and community connection.
In Friends and Fun Club, recreation becomes a natural pathway for social engagement. Participants are not just completing an activity; they are practicing how to be with others, how to share space, how to follow group routines, how to express preferences, and how to enjoy positive peer interaction.
For example, a participant may practice waiting for a turn during a board game, sharing materials during a craft activity, greeting a peer at the beginning of the session, cheering for someone during karaoke, or working with others during a group game. These small moments can become meaningful steps toward greater social confidence.
Every participant grows at their own pace. Our goal is not perfection. Our goal is meaningful participation, positive social engagement, enjoyable recreation, and steady encouragement.
Supportive Environment
Friends and Fun Club is designed with structure and support in mind. Activities are planned to be fun, clear, accessible, and age-appropriate. Staff and volunteers provide guidance, encouragement, and assistance as needed.
We aim to maintain a supportive staff-to-participant ratio so each participant can receive attention, encouragement, and appropriate support during social and recreational activities.
Our team values patience, respect, inclusion, safety, and positive interaction. We believe every individual deserves opportunities to be seen, supported, and celebrated.
Our Approach
Friends and Fun Club uses a strengths-based approach. This means we focus on what each participant can do, what they enjoy, and how they can successfully participate.
We encourage:
- Participation instead of pressure
- Progress instead of perfection
- Connection instead of comparison
- Encouragement instead of criticism
- Recreation with purpose
- Confidence through small achievements
Each activity is designed to create opportunities for success. Whether a participant completes a project, sings a song, plays a game, answers a question, joins a group, or simply enjoys being present, that participation matters.
A Place to Connect, Recreate, and Belong
Friends and Fun Club is more than an activity program. It is a place where adults with diverse abilities can enjoy recreation, connect with others, explore interests, build confidence, and experience friendship in a supportive community.
Our hope is that each participant leaves the program feeling welcomed, encouraged, and proud of themselves.
At Friends and Fun Club, every person has a place to participate, a reason to smile, and an opportunity to belong.
